The Cattelan Italia Lap Coffee Table is a height-adjustable sofa-side and lap table — available in two shapes: Kidney (S) at 80×50 cm and Rectangular (R) at 60×40 cm. Both share a fixed Clear Glass top and a Chrome Metal internal column, with the vertical stem hand-upholstered in a choice of 23 Italian leather colours. Height adjusts continuously between 55 cm (lower position) and 75 cm (raised position) via an integrated knob on the column, allowing the table to be used as a low coffee surface beside a sofa or raised to a comfortable working or dining height from a seated position. Both shapes ship in the same compact parcel (62×10×90 cm, 25 kg). Made in Italy by Cattelan Italia.

- Fixed Clear Glass Top: The tempered Clear Glass top is fixed across both shapes — no alternative top material or finish is available. The full transparency of the glass top ensures the leather stem remains the visual centrepiece of the table from all angles, including from above.
- Fixed Chrome Metal Column: The internal structural column is Chrome Metal — fixed across both shapes and all leather options. The chrome finish is visible at the base of the stem where the column meets the foot; in combination with the leather-upholstered upper portion it creates a material transition from the soft upholstered stem to the reflective metal foot.

Kidney (S) — 80×50 cm: The biomorphic kidney outline creates a curved, asymmetric top plan that reads as a softer, more organic form than any rectangular or square table. At 80 cm long and 50 cm deep, it provides a generous surface area — large enough for a laptop, drink, and small accessory simultaneously. The kidney contour allows the table to be positioned close to a curved sofa or chair arm without the top edge projecting sharply into the seating zone; the curve of the top follows the seating silhouette rather than cutting across it. Rectangular (R) — 60×40 cm: The simpler rectangular format is more compact and spatially neutral — 60×40 cm provides a focused working surface suited to a laptop or tablet with a drink, without the wider footprint of the kidney. In tight positions beside armchairs, in narrow bedroom setups, or against walls in work-from-home configurations, the rectangular outline is easier to position precisely. Both shapes share identical parcel dimensions and weight (62×10×90 cm, 25 kg) despite the kidney's larger surface area — the slender column allows both to pack into the same flat parcel format.

Materials & Construction
Tempered Clear Glass Top
Fixed across both shapes — tempered for impact resistance. The kidney and rectangular tops are cut to their respective outlines and ship flat within the same 62×10×90 cm parcel as the column. The full-transparency glass keeps the leather stem visually dominant from all angles including from above.
Hand-Upholstered Italian Leather Stem
The central column is hand-upholstered in fine Italian leather — the sole configurable element of the Lap. With 23 colours spanning the full spectrum from white through neutrals to darks and accents, the leather colour is the primary design decision. The upholstery wraps the adjustable column section, remaining flush and taut across the full height range from 55 to 75 cm.
Precision Height Adjustment Mechanism
An integrated knob on the column allows smooth, tool-free height setting between 55 and 75 cm — a 20 cm adjustment range. The mechanism locks the table securely at any point within the range. Both shapes (Kidney and Rectangular) use the same column and adjustment system and ship in an identical compact parcel (62×10×90 cm, 25 kg, 0.06 m³).
