Materials & Construction
Natural Teak Frame
Material properties: Gloster’s teak is supplied with a natural finish and no film‑forming coatings. Over time outdoors, teak will weather from a golden‑brown tone to a light silvery grey, typically over 6–24 months depending on exposure.
Surface finish: Teak components are finely sanded and in some cases buffed to bring natural oils to the surface, creating an ultra‑smooth feel and a slight gloss. This buffed appearance is cosmetic and will diminish as the furniture is exposed to sun, rain and cleaning.
Teak care: Gloster recommends cleaning teak once or twice a year with water and mild detergent or with Gloster Teak & Upholstery Cleaner, plus occasional light sanding to remove raised grain. Power washers should not be used, as they can erode the soft surface and make the teak rough.
Ceramic Top & Protective Covers
Ceramic tabletop: The Rail 240cm table uses a one‑piece ceramic top panel (Grigio or Verona) for a hard‑wearing, easy‑clean dining surface. The table is specified without a parasol hole.
Weathermax covers: Gloster offers Weathermax protective covers tailored to many products, including dining tables. Weathermax is a heavy‑duty 100% solution‑dyed polyester fabric that combines UV resistance, water resistance, breathability and durability.
Cover guidance: Furniture and cushions should be completely dry before being covered, especially for long periods. Standing water should be removed from flat areas of the cover to reduce moisture being drawn through the fabric. Covers should be removed regularly so the furniture can be cleaned and maintained even when not in use.

Year‑round exposure: Gloster furniture is designed to remain outdoors, with teak expected to change character as it weathers. Using a protective cover helps to keep off dirt, leaves and bird droppings and slows the weathering process.
Teak Protection Options
Allowing teak to grey: If you prefer a natural silver‑grey patina, simply let the teak weather and clean it thoroughly once or twice a year. Gloster Teak & Upholstery Protector can be applied over weathered teak to help repel moisture and protect against food and drink stains, with annual application recommended and twice‑yearly treatment suggested for tabletops (for example in April and October).
Maintaining brown teak: To keep teak closer to its fresh brown appearance, Gloster recommends sealing new teak with Gloster Teak Sealer once a year, then applying Gloster Teak Protector on top to help repel moisture and reduce staining.
Avoid oils and varnish: Because teak is naturally oily, paint and varnish do not adhere well and will peel. Gloster does not recommend teak oil or other wood oils for outdoor teak; frequent oiling can encourage mildew on the oil film and turn the surface black, which then requires aggressive sanding to remove.
