Materials & Construction
Aluminium & stainless steel frame
Powder coated metal structure: Aluminium provides an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and inherent corrosion resistance, while stainless steel components add strength where required. Both are finished with an electrostatically applied powder coat, giving a consistent, tough surface that is highly resistant to knocks, scratches, moisture and corrosion.
The powder coating process involves thorough sanding, multi-stage chemical cleaning and degreasing, chrome conversion coating on aluminium, and oven curing of the applied polyester powder at around 200°C for 15–20 minutes, resulting in a durable finish that far exceeds conventional paint.
Ferrari sling performance
High performance sling seat & back: Sway uses Ferrari Batyline sling for the seat and back, produced from PVC-coated polyester yarns with a pre-tensioned structure that helps prevent sagging. Ferrari sling is phthalate-free and offers excellent resistance to UV, chlorine, salt and typical outdoor pollutants.
The sling is easy to clean and is available in variants such as Batyline ISO (FR-rated) and Batyline EDEN (with a softer, more textile-like feel), chosen according to application and region.
Natural teak components
Teak detailing: Teak components are supplied in a natural finish. Left to weather outdoors, teak will gradually change from golden brown to a light silver-grey patina as the surface pigments fade under exposure to sun and rain.
Gloster recommends allowing teak to weather naturally, with occasional cleaning using mild detergent or dedicated teak cleaner; teak can be further protected with Gloster Teak & Upholstery Protector or Teak Sealer depending on whether a weathered or fresh appearance is desired.
Protective covers
Weathermax protective covers: Gloster protective covers are made from Weathermax, a solution-dyed polyester performance fabric that combines UV resistance, water resistance, breathability and durability. Covers are tailored to the furniture to minimise movement and help reduce dirt, staining and weathering.
Covers are available both for individual Sway chairs and for stacks of four, helping to protect the chairs when stored outdoors or during off-season periods.

Outdoor dining use
Stackable dining solution: The Sway Teak Stacking Dining Chair is ideal for terraces, patios and poolside dining where comfort, clean lines and the ability to stack chairs for storage are all important.
Versatile combinations: Frame and sling combinations such as Meteor / Anthracite, Meteor / Granite, Java / Sepia and White / Seagull allow you to coordinate with different table finishes and outdoor schemes.
Cleaning & maintenance
Powder coated metal: Powder coated aluminium and stainless steel should be cleaned periodically with water and mild liquid detergent using a microfibre cloth or sponge, avoiding abrasive agents, steel wool or Scotchbrite pads.
Sling & teak care: Sling surfaces can be cleaned with a mild detergent solution and soft brush or sponge, rinsed thoroughly and left to air dry. Teak should be cleaned occasionally and can be lightly sanded if needed; pressure washers should not be used on teak as they can damage the surface.
