Materials & Construction
Natural Teak Frame
Gloster uses plantation‑grown teak with a natural finish. Left to weather, teak gradually changes from golden brown to a light silvery grey over 6–24 months depending on exposure. Bay’s frame is finely sanded for a smooth touch and can be allowed to weather naturally or maintained using Gloster teak care products.
Routine care is cleaning once or twice a year with water and mild detergent or a dedicated teak cleaner. Power washers, paints, varnishes or wood oils are not recommended for outdoor teak.
Sling & Cushion Construction
The backrest uses Ferrari Batyline sling – a PVC‑coated polyester fabric with pre‑tensioning to reduce sagging – for structural support and breathability. Loose cushions are filled with outdoor‑grade foams and fibres designed to drain and dry, with internal barriers helping protect the core from moisture.
All upholstery fabrics are solution‑dyed acrylic Sunbrella textiles with water‑ and stain‑repellent finishes, so spills bead on the surface and can often be blotted away before they soak in.
Slings & Cushion Fabrics
Bay combines a Ferrari Batyline sling back with Sunbrella cushion fabrics. The sling provides taut, breathable support, while the cushions use soft yet hard‑wearing solution‑dyed acrylic covers in a wide choice of weaves and colours.
Sling Material Properties
Ferrari Batyline sling is woven from PVC‑coated polyester yarns, each with a polyester core and coloured PVC jacket. It offers excellent resistance to UV, chlorine, salt and general outdoor pollutants, and is easy to maintain with simple cleaning.
We use Batyline ISO (100% PVC‑coated polyester, available in FR grades) and Batyline EDEN (a blend of PVC‑coated polyester and uncoated solution‑dyed acrylic yarns) to combine structural support with a softer, more textile‑like touch.
Sling Cleaning
Clean sling with a 1:16 mild detergent to lukewarm water solution. Thoroughly soak the sling, gently scrub with a sponge or soft brush to lift dirt, then rinse with cold water and allow to air dry.
A low‑pressure hose can be used on sling areas, avoiding teak components. All foam residues should be fully rinsed out so they do not dry in the gaps between fibres and attract more dirt.
Cushion Fabric Properties
Sunbrella Solution‑Dyed Acrylic
All Gloster upholstery fabrics are Sunbrella solution‑dyed acrylic. Colour is added to the liquid acrylic before extrusion, so the pigment runs through the whole yarn, making the fabric highly resistant to fading under UV exposure.
Every fabric has a surface finish that makes it water‑ and stain‑repellent. Spilled liquids usually bead on the surface and can be dabbed away before soaking in. Outdoor Performance fabrics offer a soft hand with plush fillings and a water‑resistant barrier under the cover to protect the interior and speed drying.
Water‑Resistant & Soft Touch Options
Water‑Resistant (RAIN) Sunbrella fabrics add a highly water‑resistant coating layer on the reverse, slowing water penetration through the fabric. They are practical and quick‑drying when combined with open‑cell cushion cores that promote airflow.
Soft Touch fabrics are exclusive knitted Sunbrella textiles with a 3D structure, offering extra texture and softness plus a little stretch so they fit complex cushion shapes. They share the same solution‑dyed acrylic performance but with a more cocooning, indoor‑like feel.
