The Cattelan Italia Giselle Lounge Armchair is the lounge expression of the Giselle family — designed by Maurizio Manzoni — a low, wide, deeply inviting armchair that takes the signature enveloping ashwood arc of the dining version and reinterprets it at full lounge scale. At 86 cm wide × 93 cm deep × 74 cm high with a low 40 cm seat height, the Giselle Lounge is built for prolonged relaxation: its generous seat depth, soft cushioned volumes, and suspended backrest create an atmosphere of unhurried, weightless comfort. The Giselle Lounge's most distinctive architectural quality is its seemingly unsupported floating backrest — the backrest cushion appears to hover free of the structure, resting against the ashwood frame with a composed, gravity-defying lightness. A lumbar cushion is included as standard. An optional matching scatter cushion can be added to further enrich the composition. The ashwood frame is available in four finishes — Open Pore Matt Black Ashwood, Natural Ashwood, Canaletto Walnut Stained Ashwood, and Burned Oak Stained Ashwood — and the seat and back are upholstered across thirteen material categories spanning synthetic leather, nubuck, chair fabrics, soft leathers, sofa-grade leathers, and premium woven fabric categories A through F. Natural Ashwood is the purest expression of the material — pale, warm grain with minimal tonal intervention, most harmonious with light, Scandinavian-influenced, and organic interiors. Canaletto Walnut Stained Ashwood brings a deep, rich walnut tone to the ash grain, adding warmth and classical depth to any living space. Burned Oak Stained Ashwood delivers the darkest, most atmospheric tone — a deep charcoal-brown stain that creates maximum contrast with light upholstery and reads as dramatically contemporary. Open Pore Matt Black Ashwood is the most distinctive finish — a full matte black treatment leaving the grain completely open and unsealed, producing an extraordinary tactile surface of raw material refinement.
Seat & Back Upholstery
Thirteen upholstery categories — seat and backrest upholstered in the same selected material throughout.
The included lumbar cushion and optional scatter cushion are upholstered in the same selected material as the seat and back, ensuring a seamless, unified material composition throughout the chair. Synthetic Leather and Micro Nubuck offer durability and ease of care suited to high-use living room settings. Chair Fabrics and Category A–F woven fabrics allow precise coordination with surrounding sofas, curtains, and textiles. Soft Leather and Soft Leather Glove deliver classic lounge leather character. The four Sofa Leather categories — Glove, Perfetto, Nabuk, and Magnifica — are the premium grades typically reserved for high-end sofa specification and represent the finest material expression of the Giselle Lounge. Lumbar Cushion & Optional Scatter Cushion
The scatter cushion, when selected, is upholstered in the same material category and colour as the main seat and back upholstery — creating a fully unified, coordinated composition. Please note that the optional scatter cushion selection must be made at the time of order and cannot be added separately after production.
Materials & Construction
Solid Ashwood Frame — Lounge-Scale Arc
The Giselle Lounge frame is crafted from solid fine ash, shaped into a wide, low continuous arc that forms the legs, sides, and armrests in a single enveloping profile at lounge proportions. The frame is available in four finishes — open pore matt black, natural, Canaletto walnut stain, and burned oak stain — all preserving the open grain character of the ash. As a natural material, grain patterning will vary between individual pieces.
Seat, Back & Cushion Upholstery
Seat and backrest are upholstered in the selected material from thirteen categories. The backrest cushion is constructed to sit against the frame with a deliberately suspended, floating appearance. The included lumbar cushion and any optional scatter cushion are upholstered in the matching selected material, ensuring complete material consistency across the full composition of the chair.
Dimensions
Single configuration — one size across all frame finish and upholstery combinations. The 40 cm seat height is suited to lounge and living room settings. Dimensions do not include the optional scatter cushion.
