Description
The Cattelan Italia Magda Barré Stool elevates the couture character of the Magda Barré chair family to bar and counter stool height, bringing the same defining detail — the Barré vertical quilting — to a taller, more commanding seating format suited to kitchen islands, bar counters, and lounge settings. The stool inherits the Magda Barré's most distinctive visual signature: a series of precise, parallel vertical stitching channels worked across the full height of the upholstered backrest, referencing the traditions of Italian haute couture tailoring. Available in four configurations — A75 and A64 (armless), B75 and B64 (with arms) — across two seat heights: 75 cm bar height and 64 cm counter height. The ashwood frame is available in four finishes: Open Pore Matt Black Ashwood, Natural Ashwood, Canaletto Walnut Stained Ashwood, and Burned Oak Stained Ashwood. A steel footrest is integrated into the frame as standard across all configurations — protecting the wood legs at height and ensuring a natural, supported seated posture at bar or counter level. Seat upholstery is available across three leather-focused categories: Synthetic Leather, Soft Leather, and Soft Leather Glove. Made in Italy by Cattelan Italia.
Key Features
- Barré Vertical Quilting — Couture Backrest Detail: The defining element of the entire Magda Barré family is carried fully into the stool format: parallel, equidistant vertical stitching channels run the full height of the padded backrest, referencing Italian haute couture tailoring. At bar and counter height, the vertically quilted backrest has heightened visual presence — the elongated proportions of the stool amplify the rhythm of the Barré stitching and create a strong, sartorial focal point in the kitchen or bar setting.
- Four Configurations — Two Heights, Two Arm Options: A75 and B75 are bar height (75 cm seat height), suited to standard bar counters and high kitchen islands. A64 and B64 are counter height (64 cm seat height), suited to slightly lower island benches and counter tops. Within each height, an armless version (A) and an arms version (B) are available. All four configurations are available across all frame finishes and upholstery categories without restriction.
- Integrated Steel Footrest — Standard Across All Configurations: A steel footrest is built into the structure of all Magda Barré Stool configurations. It serves a dual purpose: protecting the lower ashwood legs from foot contact and providing a natural, ergonomically correct footrest position for the sitter at bar or counter height. The footrest is finished in a complementary metal tone across all frame finish options.
- Solid Ashwood Frame — Four Finishes: Open Pore Matt Black Ashwood, Natural Ashwood, Canaletto Walnut Stained Ashwood, and Burned Oak Stained Ashwood. The slender, tapered ashwood legs give the stool an elegant, furniture-quality presence that sets it apart from standard metal-legged bar seating.
- Three Upholstery Categories — Leather-Focused: Synthetic Leather, Soft Leather, and Soft Leather Glove — the ideal medium for the precision of the Barré vertical quilting, ensuring the stitching channels read with maximum sharpness across the backrest surface.
- Armrest Option — Versions B75 & B64: The armrest versions add integrated wood armrests at 89 cm (B75) and 78 cm (B64), providing lateral support and a more enveloping seating experience without compromising the clean visual profile of the stool.
- Made in Italy — Cattelan Italia: Manufactured entirely in Italy by Cattelan Italia.
Stool Configuration
The 75 cm seat height (A75, B75) is calibrated for standard bar counters and high kitchen islands typically 90–105 cm in worktop height. The 64 cm seat height (A64, B64) is suited to slightly lower island benches, counter tops, and home bar settings typically 75–90 cm in height. The armless versions (A75, A64) have a lighter visual footprint and allow the stool to slide fully under the counter when not in use. The armrest versions (B75, B64) are preferred when comfort across extended periods of use is the priority.
Wood Frame Finish Options
Four ashwood frame finishes — available across all four configurations and all upholstery combinations without restriction.
Natural Ashwood is the warmest, most organic expression — a pale, open grain that harmonises naturally with timber kitchen cabinetry, light stone worktops, and Scandinavian-influenced interiors. Canaletto Walnut Stained Ashwood introduces a deep, rich walnut tone that pairs particularly well with dark stone, marble, or engineered stone counter surfaces. Burned Oak Stained Ashwood is the most dramatically contemporary finish — a deep charcoal-brown that creates a bold, architecturally intense composition. Open Pore Matt Black Ashwood is the most distinctive — a fully matte black treatment leaving the grain visible and completely unsealed, delivering a raw, tactile surface refinement unique among standard wood stool finishes. The steel footrest is finished in a complementary tone across all frame options.
Seat Upholstery
Three upholstery categories — seat and Barré-quilted backrest upholstered in the same selected material throughout.
As across the full Magda Barré family, upholstery is focused on leather and leather-adjacent materials to ensure the Barré vertical quilting reads with full precision and definition on the backrest. Synthetic Leather offers the most durable, easy-clean surface — particularly suited to kitchen island bar stools in everyday use. Soft Leather brings a natural, supple leather character with subtle grain development over time. Soft Leather Glove is the premium grade — an extraordinarily fine, glove-quality leather representing the highest material expression of the Magda Barré Stool. Leather samples available on request.
Materials & Construction
Solid Ashwood Frame — Tapered Legs
The Magda Barré Stool frame is constructed from solid fine ash in four finishes. The slender, tapered legs give the stool the furniture-quality, considered profile that distinguishes it from standard metal-legged bar seating. In versions B75 and B64, the frame is extended to form integrated wood armrests in the same finish as the base. As a natural material, grain patterning will vary between individual pieces.
Integrated Steel Footrest
A steel footrest is fitted as standard across all four configurations, positioned at the correct height for natural foot support at both bar (75 cm) and counter (64 cm) seat heights. The footrest protects the lower ashwood legs from foot scuffing and contributes to long-term durability. It is finished in a complementary metal tone consistent with the selected frame finish.
Barré-Quilted Backrest & Seat
The backrest is softly padded and upholstered in the selected material, with the Barré vertical quilting worked across the full height of the upholstered backrest surface. The stitching channels are parallel, equidistant, and run from the top to the base of the backrest. The seat cushion is separately upholstered in the same material, providing generous comfort for extended use at bar or counter height.
Dimensions
Four configurations across two heights. A75 & B75 share the same overall footprint; A64 & B64 share the same overall footprint. B-versions add arm height. Dimensions are consistent across all frame finishes and upholstery combinations.
