Description
The Gloster Ambient Compass Lanterns are solar and mains rechargeable outdoor lanterns that pair a natural finish teak frame with a woven all‑weather wicker shade, bringing warm, diffused light to terraces, seating areas and pathways. Available in Small, Medium and Large sizes, they work beautifully on their own or grouped together in different heights.
Key Features
- Natural teak & wicker construction: Solid natural finish teak frame with a woven all‑weather wicker shade in Burlap (or optional Umber) for a soft, textural lantern look.
- Solar & mains rechargeable LED unit: Integrated LED light unit can be charged from mains power or, when placed in daylight, via the built‑in solar panel for cable‑free use outdoors.
- Remote‑controlled light levels: Radio‑frequency remote control with 8 light output settings; the lantern always switches on at maximum brightness and can then be dimmed up or down.
- Warm white ambience: 18 LEDs at a warm 2700 K colour temperature, with an adjustable output of around 100–180 lumens – ideal for atmospheric, non‑glare lighting.
- Long battery life: Lithium‑ion battery gives approximately 8 hours of light on the maximum setting from a full charge, making it suitable for a full evening outside.
- Outdoor‑ready: IP64 rating for the light unit provides protection against dust and splashing water; the lanterns are designed for permanent outdoor use in typical residential settings.

LED Light Unit, Charging & Use
Charging & Battery
The LED light unit is powered by a built‑in lithium‑ion battery. For the first use, charge for at least 10 hours using the supplied mains adapter to condition the battery.
Subsequent charges typically take around 5–6 hours for a full charge and provide approximately 8–10 hours of light on maximum output, depending on ambient temperature and brightness setting.
When charging from the mains, always charge indoors and ensure the silica‑gel cap over the charging socket is fully refitted before using the lantern outside, so water cannot enter the LED unit.
Solar Charging & Operation
When the lantern is switched off and placed in natural daylight, the solar panel will continue to top up the battery. Charging times from solar alone vary with season, weather and latitude; the quickest results are achieved in direct sunlight.
Use the remote control or the red on/off button on the underside of the LED unit to switch the lantern on. The light starts at maximum intensity; use the “+” or “–” buttons on the remote to adjust the brightness, and press the power or “off” button to switch the lantern off.
The remote control uses a CR2025 lithium button cell, is not waterproof, and should be kept away from children and stored indoors when not in use.
General Safety Guidelines
Safe Use of the Charger & Light Unit
Use only the adapter supplied with the lantern to charge the LED unit, and do not use that adapter to charge any other product. Never connect the mains charger to the light unit outdoors; mains charging must always be carried out indoors.
Do not expose the light unit or adapter to open flame or direct heat sources and do not attempt to open or modify the charger or LED module. A damaged adapter should be returned to the retailer or an authorised service agent for replacement.
This product is not intended for use by children. Small parts such as the remote battery and silicone caps must be kept out of reach of children to avoid choking and ingestion hazards.
Care of the LED Module
The LED light unit is sealed and the internal battery is non‑replaceable; when the module eventually reaches the end of its life, the complete LED unit must be replaced.
Always ensure the charger socket cap is firmly in place before using the lantern outside, as water ingress can damage the electronics and void the product warranty. Disconnect the adapter after each charging cycle.
Operate the lantern only within the temperature range specified in the user guide and avoid leaving the unit submerged in water or buried in snow for extended periods.
2026 Warranty, Complaints & Returns
Gloster Furniture Warranty
Gloster warrants its outdoor furniture, including Ambient Compass lanterns, to the original purchaser against defects in materials and workmanship under normal, intended use from the date of delivery. The warranty is non‑transferable and valid only when the furniture has been properly cleaned and maintained according to Gloster’s aftercare instructions.
The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, dents, scratches, marks or tears to fabrics and fibres that occur in use, nor natural weathering effects such as colour change and small end‑grain cracks in teak. Wheels and footcaps are guaranteed for one year. No warranty claims are accepted for products or components more than five years old.
Reporting Issues & Returns Policy
For warranty enquiries Gloster requests, in one email: clear photos of the issue (overview and close‑ups), the product code, batch number and country of origin from the silver label, proof of purchase, installation location (coastal, inland, poolside, etc.) and a brief description of how and when the damage occurred.
Written authorisation must be obtained from Gloster before returning any product; items returned without prior approval will be refused. Returned products are inspected by Gloster’s Quality Control team and repaired or replaced if a manufacturing defect is confirmed. Only manufacturer’s defects are accepted for return and goods must be returned in their original packaging.
Why Choose Ambient Compass Lanterns
Ambient Compass Lanterns mix natural teak, woven wicker and warm LED light in three heights, so you can scatter small lanterns on tables, use the medium as a floor or side lantern, and let the tall large lantern anchor corners or pathways – all with the convenience of solar and mains rechargeable light and a single remote to control the mood.
Dimensions & Specifications – Small, Medium & Large
All three sizes share the same LED specification – 18 LEDs, warm 2700 K colour temperature, approx. 100–180 lumens, Li‑ion battery, IP64 rating and mains/solar rechargeability. Only the physical size and weight differ.
