Teak Care & Protective Covers
Gloster Protective Covers
When not in use, we recommend covering furniture with specially designed Gloster protective covers to help prevent dirt, stains and environmental damage.
Each cover is tailored to the specific product dimensions for a close fit and is made from Weathermax, a heavy duty 100% solution dyed polyester fabric that combines UV resistance, water resistance, breathability and durability.
Covers feature strap-and-clip connectors or ties to keep them secure in windy conditions. Ensure furniture is completely dry before covering and remove any standing water from the cover surface.
Teak Material Properties
Contrary to popular belief, teak does not require special treatment beyond occasional cleaning. Left to weather naturally, teak changes from golden-brown to a light silvery grey over 6–24 months depending on exposure.
Gloster teak is supplied in a natural finish. Some pieces are finely sanded, while others are additionally buffed to bring teak oils to the surface and create a smooth, slightly glossy appearance that will soften with outdoor exposure or cleaning.
We recommend allowing teak to weather naturally and cleaning once or twice a year with water and mild detergent or Gloster Teak & Upholstery Cleaner. Light sanding can help remove raised grain and restore a smooth surface.

Additional Teak Aftercare & Warranty Notes
Teak Aftercare Products
Gloster Teak & Upholstery Protector can be applied to weathered teak to help repel moisture and reduce staining from food and drinks. Apply once a year, or twice a year on table tops (typically April and October).
To maintain the original brown colour, teak should be sealed when new with Gloster Teak Sealer, then protected with Gloster Teak Protector on top. Avoid teak oil or other wood oils for outdoor use, as they can encourage mildew and cause the teak to blacken over time.
Teak cannot be successfully painted or varnished long-term as its natural oils prevent coatings from adhering properly, leading to peeling.
Warranty & Natural Characteristics
Gloster outdoor furniture is covered by a limited warranty to the original purchaser when used reasonably and maintained in line with aftercare instructions. Natural hairline cracks and changes in appearance due to weathering are expected characteristics of teak and are not considered defects.
Visible cracks on exposed end grain are normal and result from natural movement of the timber with changes in temperature and humidity. These do not affect strength, performance or life expectancy.
For warranty enquiries, Gloster requests product code, batch number, purchase date, location of furniture and clear photographs, so that each case can be assessed and resolved appropriately.
