The Cattelan Italia Murphy Central Units are the primary seating body elements of the Murphy modular sofa system — open, armless central modules designed to be placed between Terminal Units, Corner Units, or Chaise Units to build linear, L-shaped, and U-shaped Murphy sofa compositions of any scale. Available in four widths — 115 cm, 180 cm, 220 cm, and 240 cm — all Central Units share a consistent 115 cm seat depth and 75 cm overall height, with each unit supplied with one (115 cm and 180 cm) or two (220 cm and 240 cm) integrated 100 cm backrest/arm elements included as standard. Cover upholstery is available in Category A through F fabrics. An optional loose cushion (PW70 — 70×65 cm) or armrest cushion (PW65 — 65×48 cm) may be added in a matching or contrasting fabric from the same upholstery range. Made in Italy by Cattelan Italia.

Central Unit 115 cm (115×115×75h cm) is the compact square-plan central module suited to smaller compositions or corner-adjacent placement. Central Unit 180 cm (180×115×75h cm) is the mid-width central module for versatile single or combined composition use. Central Unit 220 cm (220×115×75h cm) and Central Unit 240 cm (240×115×75h cm) are the wide central modules for generous three-to-four-seat arrangements, each supplied with 2 backrest/arm elements. Multiple Central Units may be combined within a single composition.
Cover Upholstery
Category A, B, D, and F fabrics — applied to the Central Unit body cover. Each category includes multiple individual fabric options.

No Cushion — the Central Unit is supplied with the integrated backrest/arm element(s) only, with no additional loose cushion. PW70 Cushion (70×65 cm) is a generously proportioned loose cushion suited to use as a seat or back support. PW65 Armrest Cushion (65×48 cm) is a smaller cushion positioned at the armrest location of the backrest/arm element. Both cushion sizes are upholstered independently and may be specified in the same or a contrasting fabric to the main Central Unit cover.
Optional Cushion Cover Upholstery
The same Category A–F fabric range applies to optional cushion covers — enabling matching or contrasting cushion upholstery within the same composition.

Open-End Modular Design — Armless Central Module
The Murphy Central Unit is an open-ended, armless seating module — both ends are open and upholstered, designed to connect with adjacent Murphy modules (Terminal Units, Corner Units, or Chaise Units) along continuous upholstered junctions. The characteristic Murphy silhouette is defined by the slim, low 100 cm backrest/arm element supplied with each unit, which rests against the rear of the seat rather than rising as a fixed structural backrest, giving the Murphy its distinctive low-profile, cushion-like appearance.
Backrest/Arm Element — Included as Standard
Each Central Unit is supplied with one (115 cm, 180 cm) or two (220 cm, 240 cm) 100 cm backrest/arm elements included as standard. These elements define the rear profile of the Murphy composition and may be positioned centrally or offset along the rear of the unit depending on the overall composition design. The backrest/arm elements are upholstered in the same fabric as the Central Unit body, with no separate upholstery specification required.
Consistent 115 cm Depth — Murphy System Proportions
The 115 cm seat depth is consistent across all four Central Unit widths and across all other Murphy modules, maintaining uniform front-to-back proportions throughout any Murphy composition regardless of size or configuration. This consistent depth ensures that all units sit flush at the front and rear of any linear or L-shaped arrangement, and that corner transitions between units are geometrically clean.

Packaging Details
Packaging dimensions and weights will be confirmed prior to delivery. Murphy Central Units are delivered with the backrest/arm element(s) packaged separately from the seat body for transit protection. Optional cushions (PW70 and PW65) are packaged independently.
